About the role

We are looking for a hands-on technology professional to oversee our Cloud and Support operations. We are looking for someone who is not afraid to roll-up their sleeves and work as part of a highly collaborative team, but also has the ability to see and manage the big picture.

If you are a technical leader who embodies DevOps (communication, collaboration, integration, infrastructure as code and automation) and can drive a technology scale-up, this role is for you!

You'll interact with the Platform delivery team to provide timely communication and assistance; with the Content Team to deliver cutting edge labs; and most importantly, manage the day-to-day operations of a small team of Cloud engineers and support staff.

A successful candidate will have a passion for the elimination of repetitive work; automation and self-service are terms this person will live and breathe every day.

Experience & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of our infrastructure team managing a containerized AWS environment
  • Oversee the operations of our support team comprising of an IT Technician providing internal support and a Service agent as an externally facing helpdesk function.
  • Participate in architecting and building systems for maximum performance, reliability and scalability.
  • Author policies, guidelines, standards and procedures for business continuity, disaster recovery, high availability, systems security and systems management.
  • Disaster Recovery Officer to facilitate smooth operations and act as a point of contact and escalation in the event of an actual disaster
  • Work with the engineering teams on product design, decisions and troubleshooting
  • Maintain and improve the DevOps teams ability to rapidly and safely deploy code and configuration
  • Build and maintain a secure DevOps lifecycle, with continuous improvement to meet evolving application and compliance requirements.
  • Support the development teams ability to rapidly and safely deploy code and configuration
  • Lead audit and security programs to baseline existing measures and plan for ongoing improvements
  • Manage and participate in on-call rotation, as an escalation path in the case of high priority incidents
  • Define and report on metrics relating to SLAs and uptime
  • Ensure that our services are robust, resilient, secure, and compliant
  • Technical mentor to the team.
  • Succession planning, annual appraisals of team members
  • Proven track record in managing production-critical infrastructures and Cloud environments
  • Extensive knowledge of the Amazon Web Services ecosystem
  • Kubernetes and Guacamole deployment and management experience an advantage
  • Is a strong self-starter, operationally-focused, has a holistic data perspective, is a problem-solver
  • Is knowledgeable in network, firewall and security best practices
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and monitoring tools
  • Hands-on experience with software development, cloud infrastructure, IT services, networking, and security
  • Experience leading an engineering team, including recruiting, mentoring, roadmapping, and performance
  • Understand the importance of a multi-cloud strategies as well as multi-region DR capabilities
  • A commitment to scripting
