Cyber incidents may be played out on technological platforms, but it’s really the effectiveness of human response that dictates their impact.
This is why a well-drilled crisis team is so important. It reduces the window for regulatory, reputational and customer problems, not to mention saving around $360,000 post breach.
For this reason, I am delighted to announce the launch of our new Cyber Crisis Simulator, a product designed to help organizations keep enhancing their human response to such incidents.
True to our underlying platform, it does this by throwing a team of decision-makers into a range of simulated crisis scenarios using a browser-based gamified environment. Each is based on the latest emerging threats and custom-built labs are available for those wanting to plan for unique situations.
Participants are guided through the unfolding crisis and asked to make crucial decisions along the way, exactly how they would in a real incident, with each response affecting the overall response score.
As breach response now involves people from various business functions, we were keen for Cyber Crisis Simulator to help build a more rounded response by developing the skills of more than just technical employees.
For this reason, we made sure from the outset that it would appeal to not just security leaders but communications, regulatory, customer care teams and more, engaging them in scenarios alongside technical talent and applying metrics like reputation score and share price.
This provides the kind of holistic view that previously would only be possible with large-scale table-top exercises, which traditionally cost a significant amount to plan and run.
As Cyber Crisis Simulator can deliver all of this through a browser at a reduced cost and time-burden, it finally opens the door to frequent and always relevant crisis training, allowing for more continual skills development.
With no need to bring big groups of employees together in person, we also think Cyber Crisis Simulator will help teams who have been suddenly scattered to remote locations due to the current global pandemic. Imagine crisis training being as simple to set up as a video chat.
In all, we have worked to produce something we feel is more relevant to the contemporary environment, allowing disparate teams a cost-effective, rapid evolution of the skills required to respond effectively to incidents.
